Data Disclosure Agents in Cloud Computing Environment

Abstract:

Cloud computing offers a compelling vision of sophisticated computing resource centralization, enabling a new level of data accessing and sharing. Beyond infrastructure advantages, cloud computing enables a higher level of interoperability between users and between organizations. While this process may result in significant benefits to the data owner who shares the data, it may also present privacy concerns due to unwanted exposure of sensitive information. In this research, we present an agent-based solution to this tradeoff, in which information is shared with other entities using a semi-autonomous proxy, which receives a general policy from the user and execute it by carrying out information disclosure decisions.

We investigate the impact of data exposure configurations on the agent's performance, and the feasibility of configuring the agent using a small number of discrete configurations set. For this purpose, we developed a general method, named SCON-UP (Simplified CONfiguration of User Preferences), based on clustering techniques that takes a large set of sharing preferences and condense them to a small, but relevant, number of discrete levels. We will also present a process of quantifying privacy into a perceived value, a critical parameter for testing Agent's performance, and an AI mechanism to classify emails (unstructured text), that may be used as part of the Agent's core engine.
